Fashion with a future
Presentation of the Metaforum vision text, testimonials from the sector and debate.
How consumers, businesses, education and policy can enable sustainable clothing choices
Anyone thinking about the future of fashion must look beyond what hangs in our wardrobes. The clothing and textile industry has a major impact on people and the environment, while fast fashion continues to drive consumption and a throwaway culture. How can we make the transition to a fashion sector that is ecologically, socially and economically sustainable? An interdisciplinary working group examined the role that governments, educational institutions, businesses and consumers can play in this transition. It maps the challenges of the current fashion system and formulates a long list of concrete recommendations to encourage more sustainable clothing choices, longer product lifespans and circular models such as clothing repair, reuse and sharing.
